Plymouth - Moon Colony

Today on Discovery Enterprise we present one of the most expensive TV pilot motion pictures ever produced concerning the first human outpost established on the Moon – Plymouth.

The inhabitants of the small quiet town of Plymouth, Oregon have lived in their community for several generations when suddenly they are forced to evacuate their homes because of an environmental disaster involving radioactive waste.

In compensation they are offered the chance, by the very same corporate conglomerate that cause the environmental accident that destroyed their town in the first place, to rebuild their lives and relocate to a new world - The Moon.

Secrets of the Stone Age 1: The Wisdom of the Stones

Today on Discovery Enterprise we begin a three-part series titled "Secrets of the Stone Age" in which anthropologist and author Richard Rudgley sets off on an epic journey back in time and around the world to discover the real roots of civilization.

In the first episode of this series “The Wisdom of the Stones” Richard Rudgley travels from New York to the Pyramids and beyond in search of evidence of writing, medicine and architecture from the Neolithic or New Stone Age (8000 – 3000 BC) way before conventional history says they existed. It was the time when human beings embarked on a bold experiment, settling down in fixed communities – and establishing a style of living that still exists today.

This episode of “Secrets of the Stone Age” features the Neolithic Archaeology of the island of Malta.

Paper planes from the edge of Space

Here's an awesome experiment. A bunch of amateurs launch a hundred paper planes from the upper stratosphere.:

The Project Space Planes team - fronted by Joel Veitch, a British web animator - is attempting to snatch the world record for the longest flight by a paper plane.

It launched a weather balloon carrying 200 of the planes on Tuesday from a site near Wolfsburg, Germany.

The planes were released once the balloon reached an altitude of about 36,500m and a video camera captured the projectiles gliding toward the Earth's cloud cover below. The balloon then burst at about 37,339m and arrived back on the ground within 40 minutes, over 300km from the launch site.

Samsung latched onto the project, providing SD cards to be attached to each plane as an apparent publicity stunt to "prove how tough their memory cards are," the project's website said.

"People from all over the world have been uploading messages onto our website," Veitch explained in a YouTube video.

"We put those messages onto these memory cards … people find the memory cards, put them into their computer … they will get the messages from people all over the world and we will get to find out how far these planes have gone."

The project has received unconfirmed reports of paper plane sightings in the German cities of Minden, Bremen and Berlin, according to its website.

The Bright Yellow Asterisk – A Personal Recollection of the Challenger Disaster

The Bright Yellow Asterisk – A Personal Recollection of the Challenger DisasterJanuary – 1987. I stood alone 167 feet above the launch pad’s surface. I was staring into the open, small, white room. At the other end was an open doorway and beyond it was the blue expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. Between me and that 167 foot drop, the safety team had installed a heavy yellow canvas asterisk – a series of straps arranged in the form of a complicated series of crosses that kept anyone here from falling down to the concrete surface of the pad so far below. I just stood there staring at the open door, the bright ocean beyond and the yellow asterisk barrier that was so symbolic. For the last seven humans that had walked through that open door just one year before had never returned.

As I stared through that door, there were so many memories that flooded back to me. On that morning just a year before, I sat at home with my daughter Katy, watching the Challenger’s fateful final mission unfold on CNN. My daughter was one year and five days old on that unusually bitterly cold morning. I had watched the NASA Astronauts in that same white room where I now stood entering the Challenger spaceship: Commander Francis R. (Dick) Scobee, Pilot Michael J. Smith, Mission specialists Ronald E. McNair, Ellison S. Onizuka and Judith A. Resnik, Payload specialists Gregory B. Jarvis and Christa McAuliffe, who was to have been the first teacher in space and was chosen from more than 11,000 applicants.

I watched as they closed the hatch, as the room was swung away from the ship. I watched the countdown and the liftoff and the whole unthinkable nightmare that ensued. As I held my sleeping daughter tightly in my arms, I saw the ugly cloud engulf the Challenger, the sinuous hydra of the rockets breaking free and snaking around one another in the dark blue sky. And all of that was followed by the sickening telescopic camera playing about the blue sky flecked with white clouds. I cannot forget the cameras following the secret command embedded inside each of our brains searching the distant sky for the sign of the great ship that must somehow come out of those clouds and return safely to base. It was just not possible that they would not return home. It was NASA who built it, NASA who launched it – the very best and the very brightest cadre of men and women on the planet to whom failure was not an option. But then the long lenses on the cameras began to show the ocean surface miles offshore and there the splashes began to hit the frothing water. One after another – huge splashes. It was getting ready to skink in – the unthinkable...

And then the image of Christa McAuliffe’s mother sitting in the bleachers replaced the pictures from the distant ocean impact zone. I will never forget the image of her face. The anguish on her face told the story – the entire story – all of it. What we had all just witnessed together was just not possible. It could not happen. Not here. Not at this place. Not at this time. Not with this special crew. And yet, it did. And as I saw her face and held my own daughter in my arms, I wept deeply and bitterly. I wept for all the trauma of that horrible disaster I had just witnessed live before my eyes. I wept for Christa and her mom, and the rest of crew and all their families. I wept for America and for the dream.

A year later, as I stood there in that white room, I remembered all that and my eyes clouded with tears again. For as I stared at that door at the end of that tiny white room, I knew that this was a sacred place, a hallowed place. And that at the end, the last explorers who crossed that barrier would never come home again.

Today, now a quarter of a century later, nearly 700 men and women have walked across that threshold and stepped out into the black unknown. Ultimately, seven more did not return. That doorway with its yellow asterisk barrier is an image that has been permanently burned in my memory. For that doorway represents everything to me – it is the doorway into human exploration and one does not cross its barrier lightly. Because it does not matter how prepared one is, or how much training one has or how much one trusts the system or how thoroughly one knows and understands the probabilities – there is always the carless moment, or the second of inattention or the sheer blind hand of fate in a complex system supervised by ten thousand eyes. The bright yellow asterisk is the reminder that whomever it is that crosses the threshold and steps into the unknown is an explorer who fully understands that there is always a chance that they will not come home again. Stepping through that doorway is an honor and it is a privilege reserved for only a few but it comes with a heavy price. It always has and it always will. In the end, it is the perfect fool who steps outward who does not understand this price and who is not willing to pay that for which the check could come due at the most unexpected moment.

And so today, I honor my fellow explorers – the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger’s final mission and as well the memory of all those who have not returned from each of their missions. And today I also honor the deepest expectation of them and all the others who have not returned home again. That it is the most important duty of those who have been called to explore, not to shrink back but in fact, as we remember those who have paid the final price for the ultimate human endeavor, to honor them with our redoubled efforts to push ever outward and beyond. We must continue to push ever forward, to step around the bright yellow asterisk into those secret, dark and forbidding places that once conquered will be the cradles homes for the new generation of humans and the launch pad for their generation of dreams and dreamers.

Space Race: Race For Satellites

Today on Discovery Enterprise we are proud to present the second episode of the acclaimed BBC docudrama "Space Race" entitled “Race For Satellites”.

This series chronicles the major events and characters in the American/Soviet space race up to the first landing of a man on the moon. It focuses on Sergei Korolev, the Soviet chief rocket designer, and Wernher von Braun, his American counterpart. The series was a joint effort between British, German, American and Russian production teams.

In the second installment as the Cold War intensifies, Korolev is asked to build a rocket capable of carrying a five-ton warhead to America - he designs and constructs the R-7 Semyorka, the first ICBM, and is later allowed to use it to launch the first satellite, Sputnik 1, quickly following up with the rushed Sputnik 2. Meanwhile, von Braun struggles to persuade the US government to allow him to launch his own satellite - after Sputnik's launch and the failure of the US Navy to launch a Vanguard satellite, he is finally allowed to launch the first American satellite, Explorer 1. Korolev announces that the Americans have evened the score and that they are in a space race which they intend to win. At the end of the episode we see the silhouettes of two men walking down a corridor, one appears to be in a space-suit. This could be Yuri Gagarin.

Living under water, one couple’s dream

Dennis and Claudia have just done an interview for Fox on the Atlantica Expeditions:

Humpbacks: Giants of the Ocean

Today on Discovery Enterprise we meet a true giant of the ocean - The Humpback Whale.

Humpback whales inhabit all of the world’s oceans, but are more numerous in the Southern Hemisphere. This was not always so: Southern Hemisphere humpback whales were severely impacted by commercial whaling and estimates suggest that populations were reduced to just 2 percent of their original size. A whaling moratorium has enabled some populations to recover, but their long-term health is far from certain.

Humpbacks have stocky bodies, a prominent hump under their dorsal fin, and heads covered with knobs called tubercles, which actually contain hair follicles. Adult humpback whales range in size from 40-50 feet and weigh about 40 tons. These whales do not form family groups, but they are very social and gather together when feeding and breeding.

Secrets of the Aegean Apocalypse

Today on Discovery Enterprise we explore a mystery from antiquity – what cause the collapse of civilization during the Bronze Age?

The Bronze Age collapse is the name given by historians and archaeologists for the sudden transitions seen in the Near East and Eastern Mediterranean archaeological record from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age. Many see this transition as violent, sudden and culturally disruptive. The palace economies of the Aegean and Anatolia which characterised the Late Bronze Age were replaced, after a hiatus, by the isolated village cultures of the Ancient Dark Age.

Between 1206 and 1150 BCE, the cultural collapse of the Mycenaean kingdoms, the Hittite Empire in Anatolia and Syria, and the Egyptian Empire in Syria and Canaan interrupted trade routes and extinguished literacy. In the first phase of this period, almost every city between Troy and Gaza was violently destroyed, and often left unoccupied thereafter: examples include Hattusa, Mycenae, and Ugarit.

Today’s video feature “Secrets of the Aegean Apocalypse” focuses on the collapse of the Mycenaean kingdoms of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Around 1,200 BC, an ancient Armageddon destroyed nearly every known civilization. What could have caused it?

The theories are many, but most now include one mysterious and massively destructive factor – a force only the Egyptians survived to name: The Sea People.

Who were these warriors and how could they take down the world’s greatest powers in a span of just 50 years? Scale the dizzying heights of Crete’s mountain fortress with archaeologist Krzysztof Nowicki as he searches for clues.

The Weakening of Earth's Natural Force Field

Today on Discovery Enterprise we explore Earth’s magnetic field, the force field that protects our home planet from the lethal cosmic radiation of outer space. Is the Earth losing its magnetic field and doomed to a fate similar to Mars? Many scientists believe the answer lies in paleomagnetic data, and that this weakening may be a precursor to a magnetic field reversal; scientists know Earth is long overdue. However, humans were not around when the last reversal took place, so what does this mean for life and the long term future of humanity?

Gradually, the Earth’s magnetic field is growing ever weaker. Electrical and electronic devices suddenly shut down and people with pacemakers suddenly and inexplicably drop dead, flocks of pigeons lose their ability to navigate and seemingly lose their way and circle aimlessly above skies of Trafalgar Square and begin crashing into buildings, parked cars and people. Countless pods of whales and other aquatic mammals beach themselves. Navigational devices go awry effecting cargo ships, passenger aircraft, telecommunications satellites and computers on NASA’s space shuttle Endeavour sending it far off course and forcing the Astronauts to make an emergency landing in the Los Angeles river basin.

Is there a factual basis for such a plot line? Could we be heading for a demagnetized doomsday that will leave us defenseless against the lethal effects of solar wind and cosmic rays? Today’s documentary “Earths Force Field” takes a close scientific look at such a horrific scenario.

X-Day: The Plan to Invade Japan

Today on Discovery Enterprise we take another foray through an Alternate History of the Second World War with “X-Day: The Plan to Invade Japan”.

Let us suppose that the Trinity Test at Alamogordo, New Mexico had gone very badly and the Manhattan project, that involved the efforts of 130,000 people and cost nearly US$ 2 billion ($ 22 billion in present day value), rather than detonating the world’s first atomic bomb, had in fact produce a dud.

The Allies would have gone ahead with Operation Downfall, the overall plan for the massive invasion of Japan planned for November 1, 1945. This would have protracted the war until 1946 costing millions of Allied and tens of millions of Japanese military and civilian casualties.

This scenario was depicted vividly in the novel “The Burning Mountain: A Novel of the Invasion of Japan (1983)” an alternate history novel by Alfred Coppel. They key change in history in the novel is that the Trinity nuclear test of July 16, 1945 fails. Then the novel goes on to depict the outcome of Operation Downfall.

In today’s video feature we trace the invasion plans from Pearl Harbor to Hiroshima and analyze why President Truman chose the bomb over Operation Downfall.

Universe: The Cosmology Quest

Today on Discovery Enterprise we present a controversial documentary entitled “Universe: The Cosmology Quest” which could be aptly re-titled “The Big Bang Never Happened”.

Most of us are intrigued by questions to do with the origin and evolution of the universe. Where do we come from? Where are we going?

These are fundamental questions. But no one knows the answers. In the last few years there have been many claims that we are finally getting a true answer.

It is that the universe and all of the matter and energy out of which we are created was created in a great explosion about 15 billion years ago. This was the big bang. Most scientists will agree with this but there are a few experts in the field, who understand that we still really don’t know. This is the story of the few.

The iPod Revolution

Did you get an iPod in your stocking last Christmas? Today on Discovery Enterprise we explore how Steve Jobs and Apple Computer redefined the music industry and started a revolution as momentous as that initiated by the printing press.

The iPod Revolution goes behind the scenes and gives the inside story of how Steve Jobs gave Apple new life and paved the way for iPod to takeover the mp3 market and redefine the music industry.

The digital music revolution has been bigger than anyone could have imagined, well almost anyone. It seems one company, in particular one individual, Steve Jobs, saw into the future quite clearly. Apple Computer Company currently holds a market share of not only digital music players, but they also have the largest online music store. It’s odd that the company that only holds a market share of only seven percent of personal computer users has a whopping seventy percent market share for MP3 players.

Here Comes the Sun

"Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right" ~ by
George Harrison from The Beatles' 1969 album Abbey Road.

Today on Discovery Enterprise we investigate a nascent revolution that has the potential to alter the course of human history in the same manner that the introduction of agriculture led to the birth of human civilization.

This may indeed be the century when humanity sees the dawning of a new era in human history that will transform human civilization from energy hunter gathers to energy harvesters. We are on the cusp of a new epoch where we will see the harvesting of solar energy on a stupendous scale.

If it were up to the sun, we would have no energy problem. Every half hour on the Earth’s surface, there is more than enough light to provide energy needs for the whole world in a year.

We don’t have an energy problem, we have a conversion problem. If we are able to harvest sunlight in smart way, then we can prevent a global energy crisis.

That sounds nice but that does not mean it will succeed, at least that is what many different bodies want us to believe. It’s too expensive, takes too much space, too much material, it costs more energy than it brings, and it is still not efficient enough. While all these doubts play a role for solar energy in the distant future, it is still a marginal player in the global energy game. Back-light takes the edge off these myths and shows that a solar economy is much closer than we think. Next year, there are already rolling Giga Watts of solar cells on the conveyor belt. The industry has mastered the technology and the machines.

Radical German government measures have proved that it is possible. Villagers have completely installed solar power on empty lands. Power stations contribute to the network and where they are deserved. Many countries follow the German example: The Americans have their Grand Solar Plan and the French President Sarkozy is talking about a solar plan with the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. According to the Spanish electricity producers, oil companies will be left out.

So what energy crisis? The sun is coming!

The Death of the Oceans

Today on Discovery Enterprise we present an exciting episode from the acclaimed BBC science documentary series “Horizon” entitled “The Death of the Oceans”. In today’s instalment of Horizon we join our host Sir David Attenborough as he takes us on an in depth scientific investigation concerning the negative impact human civilization is having on the world’s oceans. This is an issue of primary concern to those of us involved in the Atlantica Expeditions and the League of New Worlds.

In fact one of our major projects in the coming year is to develop the technologies that will aid us in the continual monitoring of the health of our planetary ocean - Aquatica.

Sir David Attenborough reveals the findings of one of the most ambitious scientific studies of our time - an investigation into what is happening to our oceans. He looks at whether it is too late to save their remarkable biodiversity.

Horizon travels from the cold waters of the North Atlantic to the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef to meet the scientists who are transforming our understanding of this unique habitat. Attenborough explores some of the ways in which we are affecting marine life - from over-fishing to the acidification of sea water.

The film also uncovers the disturbing story of how shipping noise is deafening whales and dolphins, affecting their survival in the future.

Largest Cave in the World

 from National Geographic

Explorers in Vietnam may have discovered the  largest cave in the world. Big enough to fit an entire half mile block. The passage below reminds me of Edgar Rice Burrough's Pellucidar:
An enormous shaft of sunlight plunges into the cave like a waterfall. The hole in the ceiling through which the light cascades is unbelievably large, at least 300 feet across. The light, penetrating deep into the cave, reveals for the first time the mind-blowing proportions of Hang Son Doong. The passage is perhaps 300 feet wide, the ceiling nearly 800 feet tall: room enough for an entire New York City block of 40-story buildings. There are actually wispy clouds up near the ceiling.

The light beaming from above reveals a tower of calcite on the cave floor that is more than 200 feet tall, smothered by ferns, palms, and other jungle plants. Stalactites hang around the edges of the massive skylight like petrified icicles. Vines dangle hundreds of feet from the surface; swifts are diving and cutting in the brilliant column of sunshine. The tableau could have been created by an artist imagining how the world looked millions of years ago.

Dolphins: The Second Smartest Animal?

Today on Discovery Enterprise we take a close look at perhaps the second smartest creature on our planet. In a recent article scientists have declared Dolphins the world’s second most intelligent creatures after humans, with scientists suggesting they are so bright that they should be treated as “non-human persons”. It appears that we share this planet with another sentient species.

Studies into dolphin behaviour have highlighted how similar their communications are to those of humans and that they are brighter than chimpanzees. These have been backed up by anatomical research showing that dolphin brains have many key features associated with high intelligence.

Dolphin intelligence is even more impressive than scientists previously believed. So what are the ethical ramifications for our treatment of these extraordinary creatures?

Now we have tangible evidence there is intelligent life in Aquatica. I even suspect that Dolphins may be more intelligent than we are. At least, to the best of my knowledge, they do not pollute their environment.

The ancestors of the modern day dolphins entered the water roughly fifty million years ago, in the Eocene epoch. They have existed on our planet ten times longer than our first proto-human ancestors. If Dolphins could talk directly to us what wonderful tales would they tell us about life in the sea before the advent of humankind?

Today’s two main video features uncover the mysteries surrounding these magnificent creatures of the sea.

Dolphins: The Second Smartest Animal?
Lori Marino's discoveries around the incredible level of intelligence in dolphins show they should be treated as sentient beings with lives to lead, not objects or commodities.

Dolphins Deep Thinkers?

Documentary in which David Attenborough investigates the latest discoveries about dolphin intellect. For the first time ever he ‘talks’ to dolphins, putting them to the test and finding out about their remarkable wild behaviour. Many astonishing facts are revealed about dolphins. It seems that they not only solve problems with tools, but also understand many words in different order. They also have a sign language of their own.

Thorium reactors, the silver bullet?

Are thorium reactors the solution to our energy problems? Maybe. Thorium is far more plentiful then uranium , nuclear waste is much less of a problem and its not suitable for weapons. Have a look at the video below in 16 minutes it covers thorium reactors, their  history, potential and even nuclear aircraft.

2057 - The Future Is Nearer than you think

Today on Discovery Enterprise we present a documentary series hosted by theoretical physicist Dr. Michio Kaku entitled "2057".

2057, hosted by theoretical physicist Michio Kaku, is a Discovery Channel television trilogy which premiered on the Discovery Channel on January 28, 2007 and attempts to predict what the world will be like in 50 years based on current trends. The show takes the form of a docu-drama with the three separate episodes, each having informative stories ingrained into the plot. All three episodes aired on January 28, 2007.

2057 The Body: The first episode, "The Body", predicts medical advances from robotic surgery to flying ambulances.

2057 The City: examines the advances futuristic technology will bring to the home such as humanoid robots and holographic pets.

2057 The World: is probably the most complex episode of the three, discussing topics as varied as satellites that transmit data at extreme speed using lasers, to more political topics such as probable future geopolitical scenarios involving China and the United States as two opposing superpowers and the ramifications of a worldwide energy crisis with solar power positioned as a likely candidate to relieve the world's energy needs.

The Journey Ahead

"Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old;
here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold."~ Author unknown

The New Year of 2011 promises to be as exhilarating as the previous year of 2010 for those of us at Discovery Enterprise and the Atlantica Expeditions as we continue to work towards the exploration and settlement of the exciting new frontiers of sea and space.

The Atlantica Expeditions is a project sponsored and supported by the League of New Worlds.

The League of the New Worlds is a non-profit research foundation committed to the permanent human settlement of the frontiers of sea and space. The League is principally an expedition and explorations based group. It is our express purpose to plan, design, launch and permanently occupy the unsettled regions of the world’s oceans and eventually the vast ocean of space itself. We approach our purpose with the incremental development of off-the-shelf technologies integrated with intelligence and purposeful synergy, fusing the goals of ocean and space settlement into a single enterprise called the League of the New Worlds.

Humanity in the last fifty years has made great strides in the exploration of space and has all but completed its preliminary reconnaissance of the solar system.

The scientific field of comparative planetology was born over the past half century during an era of intensely paced exploration of the solar system. And, what we learned has greatly enhanced our understanding and appreciation of our planetary home the Earth.

But, in the course of our explorations we have overlooked three quarters of our own world. We have left a great yawning gap in the map of our own planet and a fuller understanding of our own world. We know almost nothing about the world’s oceans. The time has come to fill in this great unknown.

The realm of Poseidon would comprise a planet more than three times greater in size than humanity's present domain. It is a world at once integral yet, separate from our own. A world we have aptly named Aquatica.

The debate as to whether to fund space exploration at the expense of undersea exploration or vice versa in our minds is a very artificial one. In a greater context exploring the oceans of our world is part and parcel of the planetary exploration of our entire solar system. But, it is a very vital one because it concerns a very large portion of our home world about which we know very little.

We do not view the debate as an “either or proposition”. We support both exploratory endeavours and view them as vital to the long term survival and well being of the human species. Both undertakings stand on their own merits and they also compliment one another.

Many of the members of the League of New Worlds have a tremendous interest in both endeavours. And. are actively engaged and employed in both exploratory programs. We feel that the goals of exploring and eventually inhabiting both sea and space enhance humanity’s long term survival here on Earth and on countless worlds throughout the solar system and beyond. The experienced gained during the course of exploring and settling the undersea realm of Aquatica will give us the skills necessary to bravely go forth and explore and settle these future abodes for humanity.

The League's Symbol represents the new realms of sea and space together in the same frame. Shown in the image are two manned habitats - one undersea and one in space. Both habitats depicted are identical, representing the sharing of research, technology and innovation between them.

If we have learned anything during the past fifty years of space exploration its that "good planets" are hard to find and its high time we fully understand and take better care of the one, which for now at least, we can truly call home.

The dream of permanently settling Aquatica has begun, with the immediate, global commitment to long term ocean monitoring and the sustainable development of its vast wealth. We also seek to venture there to teach every culture innovative and powerful systems of thought, carved from a profound visionary philosophy – to preserve and protect this vast ocean realm. It is a philosophy vital to our long term survival on this planet and out in the vast frontier of outer space.

We must also commit our global civilization to the long term goal of maintaining the health and vitality of this planet in all its realms – land, air and sea. All of which are integral to the long term habitability of our world. Vital in meeting that end is our commitment to the continual monitoring of the health of our planetary ocean - Aquatica.

Even throughout last year’s economic slow down the Atlantica Expeditions have not faltered or stopped by any means and the year ahead promises to be an exciting one for us.

We saw the premier of an episode of Naked Science entitled “City Under the Sea” on Thursday, November 11th on the National Geographic Channel. This documentary featured our good friend and expedition commander, Dennis Chamberland and the Atlantica Expeditions, First Undersea Colony Project. In the coming year there are a number of other exciting documentaries on the horizon.

Dennis is also hard at work on the companion book to “Undersea Colonies” entitled “The Undersea Colonies of Aquatica” and the design and construction of our newest our newest expedition asset: the CETI PRIME. The CP is a small two man submarine that is being designed to dock with the third node of the New Worlds Explorer/Leviathan’s docking module.

My good friend and co-blogger Ralph Buttigieg was also hard at work on a series of articles covering the exciting possibilities of commercial space development.

SpaceX’s launch of the Falcon 9 and Dragon capsule, last month leads the way for commercial companies to bring cargo and crew the International Space Station, providing new access to space that may one day lead to a cheaper way for the general public to be involved in space travel.

Ralph, will continue to cover the exciting developments of SpaceX and other fledgling companies in future articles.

At Discovery Enterprise we are also looking forward to a very active year with guest posts by other League members, more Science Fiction related articles (for we feel that this genre of literature expresses the highest aspirations, goals and fears of our global civilization’s collective future) and also look forward to the greater active participation on the part of our readers in forum section of our blog site. Discovery Enterprise is all about exploration, so on behalf of my co-bloggers Dennis Chamberland, Ralph Buttigieg, and Michael Lombardi I invite you, dear readers to explore the wonderful year ahead of 2011 with us!
